Over 300,000 Job Seekers Registered With Jobsmalaysia Portal

SEGAMAT, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The government is assisting 307,214 individuals, including 133,214 graduates, in finding employment opportunities through the Labour Department's JobsMalaysia portal, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam Friday.

He said this number includes those who are already employed but are looking for more attractive offers in terms of salary and benefits, or who wish to change profession.

At the same time, he said, 62,804 employers have registered with the portal until last Wednesday.

"I call upon all employers to fully utilise this system to advertise vacancies and to look for suitable candidates," he said when launching the new Segamat Labour Department building and the Job Placement Programme here.

He said the ministry is always ready to help job seekers, but added that they must also not be too choosy.

He said the JobsMalaysia portal is used by both the public and private sector since its rebranding in November 2008.

Dr Subramaniam said from October 2008 to July 29 this year, a total of 31,176 local workers under 1,376 employers have been retrenched.

He said the Job Placement Programme organised by the ministry will allow job seekers to meet directly with prospective employers, obtain information and choose the job compatible to them.

Today only, he said, 789 vacancies for various posts are up for grabs.

He added that with a RM650 million allocation under the 2009 Economic Stimulus Package, the ministry has created and implemented various programmes to help the unemployed during the economic downturn, such as the Job Placement Programme, the Train and Place Programme, retraining programmes as well as programmes to replace foreign workers with local workers.
