Call For Unions, Employers To Emphasise Occupational Safety And Health

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry today advised employees unions to give greater emphasis to workers' occupational safety and health.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan said employers should also give priority to occupational safety and health and not regard the matter lightly.

She said a report of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) had stated that there were employers who did not notify the ministry of accidents involving their employees.

"We want employers to report workplace accidents. Besides, they should also show more concern for the health of their workers to ensure consistent productivity," she told reporters after chairing a meeting on occupational safety and health at Menara Maxis, here.

Maznah, who is chairman of NCOSH, said reports were important for data collection to gauge the level of occupational safety and health in various sectors.
